Linear Algebra
Insight provides a range of consulting and training services in Linear Algebra.
The PhD of Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, explored linear algebra applications in the field of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectroscopy. The EPR experiment considers the energy levels of electrons within molecules, and the transitions from one energy level to another. By understanding these energy levels EPR explores the bonds between different atoms within a molecule and also the angular orientation of these bonds. Through considering a particular kind of matrix (the EPR Spin Hamiltonian) the energy of each electron level and the probability of transitions from one energy level to another can be determined. Mark’s PhD explored a new technique (homotopy) for performing the large number of matrix calculations required in EPR spectroscopy at a significantly faster rate.
In more recent times Insight has explored the role of linear algebra techniques such as Singular Value Decomposition in the field of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
